The Cancun hotel zone is a peninsula starting from just east of the international airport and stretching about 10 miles to the north and then 3 or 4 miles westward back towards downtown Cancun. This area has more than 100 beautiful resorts and hotels all lining the stunning white sand beaches with the warm turquoise Caribbean water. The peninsula creates a lagoon between the Caribbean and the mainland that separates the hotel zone from the rest of the city. High end shopping malls lines the streets between the resorts. Just off shore, and about a 20 minute ferry ride to the north is Isla Mujeres, a beautiful island that is perfect for day trips.
Cancun's hotel zone also has some great restaurants that are outside of the resort but very close. In addition there are some fun day trips where you can visit the Mayan Ruins and the adventure/water parks of Xel-ha, Xplor, Xcaret, Xavage, Xibalba and Xenses, to name just a few that are all located about 60-90 minutes south of the hotel zone.
